“New York’s Cuban bands, artists and musicians have been burning up the dance floors, air waves and CD/MP3 players in New York, across the U.S. and overseas”

With a performing career spanning a startling seven decades, Las Hermanas Márquez (The Marquez Sisters) have captivated audiences in Cuba, Latin America, the United States and Canada with their magical performances and their impeccable musicianship. A living and musical treasure, Las Hermanas Márquez have been playing and singing authentic Cuban music since they emigrated to New York City fifty-two years ago. This recording is sold in a 96 page hardcover book-like package, containing 98 pictures and the history of the group, both in English and Spanish. A real collector's album, for all World/Cuba music lovers.

LAS HERMANAS MÁRQUEZ: Las Hermanas Márquez!!

David Oquendo, vocalist and music director of Raices Habaneras, founded his ensemble in order to preserve the pure form and essence of Cuban rhythms. The group's sultry and authentic sound has since been featured on television (HBO's Oz, the PBS documentary The Cuban Americans), on television (on Sabado al Medio Dia and Al Despertar), and on radio (WBAI and WADO, among others). Raices Habaneras has performed live at New York's Town Hall, at the famous Beacon Theater, and at the now legendary Domingos de la Rumba ("Rumba Sundays"), which was held at La Esquina Habanera in Union City, NJ.  Most recently Raices Habaneras performed with Paquito D’Rivera and Las Hermanas Márquez at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

RAICES HABANERAS: The Original Roots of Cuban Music

Roberto Poveda, is without a doubt a performer with the unique ability of reaching deep down into his Cuban roots, and deliver Soulful, Eclectic, and Hypnotizing songs which he both writes and performs with the passion of a true artist.

ROBERTO POVEDA: Son Electrico

Zesty and vibrant, festive and celebratory salsa and son brilliance. Produced by NY salsa legend Andy Gonzalez; features Grammy-nominated Cuban vocalist David Oquendo.
Our debut CD was produced by NY salsa institution Andy Gonzalez (Libre, Fort Apache, Tito Puente, etc...) and features Cuban vocalist David Oquendo (director of grammy nominated group Raices Habaneras, worked w/Compay Segundo, etc.).

QUIMBOMBO: Quimbombo

Beyond the ‘R’ there is Evolution. Singer-songwriter, Jose Conde, harnesses the old-school authentic-Cuban spirit of son and delivers it with a beautiful unique voice and contemporary eclectic flavor. Jose was born in the US and raised by Cuban-immigrant parents. The band Ola Fresca (fresh wave), is an international cast of some of the best musicians in NY and together they play all original roots-y, funky, jazzy, 21st century Latin dance music. (R)Evolucion was co-produced by the Grammy-winning Aaron Levinson (Spanish Harlem Orchestra).

JOSE CONDE: (R)evolucion

"Los Barbaros Del Ritmo" is a product of the brilliant imagination of singer, songwriter and director Chico Alvarez that captures the best rhythms of the Caribbean. This recording moves your spirit. It's the African heart of Cuba, a blend of fine singing, great percussion and heavy metals. Chico's everlasting love for Afro Cuban rhythms: incendiary power.
- Ramon Hernandez, composer and vocalist

CHICO ALVAREZ Y NOSOTROS: Los Barbaros Del Ritmo

National Endowment for the Arts, Jazz Master Award, 2008.  Now 86, Candido is a musical giant hailed as one of the greatest Cuban percussionists to come to the United States. His musical gift is a powerful, driving force as he plays percussion with fingers that demonstrate technical ability with a love for music. Even when Candido performs alone on stage, the stage seems full.

CANDIDO CAMERO: Hands Of Fire

A style of Cuban music characterized by the universality of its sensual lyrics, its rich instrumentation - the flute, violins, a strong rhythm section consisting of piano, bass, conga drums, timbales, Cuban Guiro and solid vocals.

SONSUBLIME: Bailando Con SonSublime

Pianist Papo Ortega presents Cubanoson bringing you danceable traditional Cuban music at its best, enjoy our original and classic Son Montunos and Guajiras - your certain to get up and dance.

CUBANOSON: Recordando A Cuba

Like the Afro-Cuban goddess of love that this orchestra is named after, Ochún brings us the good things in life. A good Cuban cigar and a glass of the smoothest Cuban rum are hard to come by and must be slowly savored; so must we treat ourselves to the music of Ochún!

OCHÚN: En El Año de Ochún

Start with the right ingredients and the technical knowhow and you’re bound to cook up a storm. This is exactly what Son de Madre has done with their debut CD Rumberos. Cuban music is the basis for this tastily festive offering.

SON DE MADRE: Rumberos

Pérez Prado

Xiomara Laugart, who now lives in the United States, recorded this CD in Cuba in 1997; it has that sort of pop sheen you’d expect from the time, with lots of keyboards. It’s clear she’s a gifted singer; when the band and she decide to rock, hinting at timba, you understand why she has the reputation she has, as a singer and an improviser.

XIOMARA LAUGART: Qué Manera De Quererte

Cuban American Vocal Jazz that has been hailed as audacious, fresh, creative and appealing to all audiences. Venissa combines originals, Jazz and Cuban classics, and rhythms creating a sparkling recording with an All Star band. Great Reviews.

VENISSA SANTI: Bienvenida

Quimbombó is a groove-oriented band with roots in Cuban són (the contagious dance music championed by Buena Vista Social Club that is the main ingredient in salsa); they always maintain strong elements of improvisation and spontaneity in their sound. Quimbombó (pronounced keem-bohm-BO) is the title of a classic Cuban són popularized by Conjunto Chappotín in the 1950's; a word of Congolese origin, it means “okra” or “gumbo” in Spanish.

This year's eponymous debut recording by New York based Cuban jazz ensemble, "Hot House" is fundamentally an homage to the music and spirit of the great Charlie Parker. Conceived, produced and directed by trumpeter Steven Gluzband, Hot House may be considered as much a musical nexus as a band, juxtaposing traditional Cuban dance forms with the jazz idiom, young musicians with veteran players, and Cuban émigrés with first and second generation Americans. The result of this remarkable collaboration is a fresh mix that can only be Latin jazz from New York City.
