With a performing career spanning a startling seven decades, Las Hermanas Márquez (The Marquez Sisters) have captivated audiences in Cuba, Latin America, the United States and Canada with their magical performances and their impeccable musicianship. A living and musical treasure, Las Hermanas Márquez have been playing and singing authentic Cuban music since they emigrated to New York City fifty-two years ago. This recording is sold in a 96 page hardcover book-like package, containing 98 pictures and the history of the group, both in English and Spanish. A real collector's album, for all World/Cuba music lovers. |

David Oquendo, vocalist and music director of Raices Habaneras, founded his ensemble in order to preserve the pure form and essence of Cuban rhythms. The group's sultry and authentic sound has since been featured on television (HBO's Oz, the PBS documentary The Cuban Americans), on television (on Sabado al Medio Dia and Al Despertar), and on radio (WBAI and WADO, among others). Raices Habaneras has performed live at New York's Town Hall, at the famous Beacon Theater, and at the now legendary Domingos de la Rumba ("Rumba Sundays"), which was held at La Esquina Habanera in Union City, NJ. Most recently Raices Habaneras performed with Paquito D’Rivera and Las Hermanas Márquez at Jazz at Lincoln Center. |
