Yuka Seka (Dry Cassava/without seasoning) is a musical project from Guantánamo, Cuba, nourished by the sounds of the Jaibo River, the largest river in the Guantánamo valley area. This highly danceable music that band leader Pablo Moya has brought to New York has its origins in the traditional style of Changuí de Lajas (a kind of dance). It comes from the municipality of Tiguabo, where the Jaibo River starts and the former Central Soledad, a sugar mill area, where he was born.
Yuka Seka is:
Pablo Moya - tres, vocals
Tony de Vivo - percussion
Gabriel Machado - conga
Ruben Rodriquez - bass
Oliva Restaurant & Bar has been a fixture on the corner of Houston and Allen Streets on the LES since 2000. In that time it has been a regular destination of diners seeking great, authentic Spanish food and drink in a fun, exciting atmosphere. The cuisine and wine stay true to Spanish, specifically Basque, influence but the bar and music are fused with other Latin flavors. Rums, tequilas, and cocktails from across Latin America combine with live music featuring Son Cubano, Boleros, Salsa and Merengue.
