SONIDO IDEAL

CHICO ALVAREZ

also performing

Cita Rodriguez & Band

DJ Broadway

Join us on Saturday, March 19th and start the spring time right dancing the night away with the swinging Charanga sounds of Sonido Ideal featuring Chico Alvarez "El Montunero" on lead vocals (inspirando), Cita Rodriguez & Band and DJ Broadway at the Co-Op City Auditorium.

During the 1970's and 80's ‘Típica Ideal,’ as the band was known then, was at the height of the Latin music dance scene here in the "Big Apple" with hits like "Para Bailar y Gozar" and "Bim, Bam, Bum."  Band members Gil Suarez (piano) and Mike Amitin (bass), veterans of Típica Ideal, have reinvented Típica Ideal as Sonido Ideal, dazzling a whole new generation of listeners and dancers alike with old favorites and brand new ones as well.

Cita Rodriguez was born in the Bronx, the daughter of the late singer and bandleader Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez. At school in Spanish Harlem, she studied flute and sang in the chorus. By age 16, she was singing and touring with her father and a year later enrolled at El Conservatorio de Musica de Puerto Rico. Back in NYC in 1991, her father formed a group with Cita and her brother singing backup, recording Generacianes in 1994. Cita formed a band in 2000 and in 2004 received a Master’s degree from CCNY. She has performed background vocals on numerous recordings and currently tours and records with The Mambo Legends Orchestra.

DJ Broadway "El Cubano del Sabor" - Mike Mitjans from an early age developed an ear for quality music. He listened to his father play records from such Cuban legends as Orquesta Aragon, Chappotin, Beny More, Arsenio Rodriguez, Roberto Faz, Jose Antonio Fajardo, just to name a few. Listening to these artists and others, is why DJ Broadway only plays quality Latin music. When you hear a DJ Broadway Latin dance set. not only will you hear great music but you will see a person who truly loves what he does. DJ Broadway is one of New York’s most sought-after DJs.

Be sure not to miss this very special live Latin music dance event!
